This font was designed as a companion piece for our picture font: Bill’s Victorian Ornaments. It consists of 26 swash intials (Cap keys A-Z) and 7 fleurons (keys 1-7). An elongated space has been added to the space bar for some swas tolerances, especially on letters with leading tails (B, P, etc.) Lower swashes all fall just below the base line when matched with typefaces of similar point size.
This is a Type 1 PostScript font with hints. It works well with Adobe Type Manager.
If you are using System 6.x: You must use Font/DA mover 3.8 or later. Then put printer font (the one with icon shaped like a laser printer) in the system folder. DO NOT CHANGE THE NAME OF THIS PRINTER FONT...IF YOU DO IT WILL NOT WORK. Load the screen font (suitcase icon) into the system with the font/DA mover. It is also compatible with Suitcase II.
If you are using system 7: Follow instruction which came with your operating system documentation for loading PostScript fonts.
Notes: The swashes are meant to extend well under following letters. We have set them at our comfortable kerning points, but you may want to manually kern type with them. We have found Times Roman, Century Old Style, the Caslons and other serif fonts to be very comfortable with these swash letters.
A bit of history: The characters are based on Dearborn Initials from the Barnhart Brothers and Spindler spec book of 1908. The fleaurons are adapted from border elements in the same volume.
